tofu schnitzel

INGREDIENTS: 

1 package extra firm tofu

1.5 C all purpose flour + salt and cane sugar to taste

Raw Spice Bar Schnitzel Spice Pack

1 flax egg - 1 T flax meal mixed with 3 T water (note: we mixed a little more water because we wanted the flax to coat the tofu similarly to an egg wash. 

Plain Bread Crumbs

Earth Balance and a touch of olive oil, for frying (note: can use coconut oil or grapeseed oil as well) 

 

PROCEDURE:

Start by draining the tofu and pressing out the water with paper towels without destroying the shape of the tofu. 

Prepare your bowls to dip the tofu into: mix the flour with the flavour kit, salt, and cane sugar to taste. In a separate bowl, make the flax egg (note: you want this to be a bit thin so you can dip). In another bowl, add your bread crumbs. 

Cut the tofu into 1/2 inch strips. Dip in the flour spice mix, then flax egg mix, then the bread crumbs. 

Fry in the pan until golden.
